MP Atty. Laisa Masuhud Alamia has been sworn in as Deputy Speaker of the Bangsamoro Parliament on September 26, Monday. She has previously served as Minority Floor Leader of the Bangsamoro Parliament during the first three years of the regional government’s political transition.

For the next three years, the Bangsamoro Parliament will serve as “One BTA,” where the majority-minority divide is shelved in favor of a more unified approach to legislation. MP Alamia said that this shift will help in making sure that “the directives given by the president and the provisions of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, along with the framework agreement and comprehensive agreement, will be implemented.”

MP Alamia, as deputy speaker, will continue to pursue legislation as a human rights advocate with a keen interest on gender issues, IDP rights, and transitional justice in the region.
